Cimabue and the Others

A tour of Santa Croce’s crucifixes painted on wooden panels in the 13th and 14th centuries takes the visitor on a journey of discovery exploring the development of the depiction of Christ. In identifying the differences in their composition, we see how their interpretation gradually took on board the religious mystique and symbolism that turned an instrument of torture into a tree of life.
