Guided Tours of the Restoration Site

From October 2024 to July 2025, a free guided tour “Face to Face With Giotto” for residents of Florence and the Metropolitan City of Florence area.

Giotto’s masterpieces from closer up than ever before: the Fondazione CR Firenze is delighted to offer residents of Florence and the municipalities included in the Metropolitan City of Florence area a preview tour of the Bardi Chapel fresco restoration site in Santa Croce. The initiative, entitled “Face to Face With Giotto” and due to run from October 2024 to July 2025, is promoted and organised by the Fondazione CR Firenze.

Free guided tours, reserved for residents of Florence and the municipalities included in the Metropolitan City of Florence area, will be held at the weekend. Groups of max. five participants will be able to ascend the scaffolding, accompanied by staff specially trained for this important and truly unique occasion. This remarkable tour of a restoration project under way offers visitors the chance not only to admire Giotto’s masterpieces close up but also to watch the restoration “live”. In the course of this once-in-a-lifetime experience, visitors will be able, in particular, to admire certain details of Giotto’s story in images of the Life of St. Francis, recounted in six episodes illustrating the most significant moments in the saint’s life on the side walls of the chapel.
