Today, more than seventy years on from the last intervention, we can evaluate the choices made with a renewed critical spirit, as their promoters hoped for at the time, reconciling the state of conservation of the work, the historical instance, (including historicized restorations) and the possibility of a better unified reading of a figurative text of such importance: the work of OPD and Opera di Santa Croce on this theme is especially supported by a Scientific Committee composed of restoration experts and by some of the greatest scholars of Giotto's work.
The present committee is composed of the chair of Santa Croce and leading art historian Cristina Acidini, Giorgio Bonsanti, Marco Ciatti †,Mauro Matteini, Emanuela Daffra, Serena Romano, Andrea De Marchi, Sonia Chiodo, Antonella Ranaldi, Emanuela Ferretti.
