Discover Santa Croce
Free visits and activities for families within this new project starting from November.
Santa Croce is a deeply symbolic place that is part of the identity and heritage of the city, everyone must be given the opportunity to get to know it better. For this reason, the Opera di Santa Croce and the CR Firenze Foundation have chosen to launch the project, Discover Santa Croce together, designed specifically to share with the local community and with all those close to Santa Croce, the stories and secrets of a heritage that has, for centuries, attracted visitors from all over the world.
The project was presented in the Santa Croce Refectory on October 27th by Cristina Acidini, president of the Opera and Gabriele Gori, general director of the CR Firenze Foundation.
The protagonist is the monumental complex that will be narrated through 52 free guided visits, mainly at weekends and on public holidays and will be available from the 1st of November 2022 until Spring 2023. The visits will unfold along 16 different itineraries that will deepen the many different aspects that all compose, as in a puzzle, the rich identity of Santa Croce, a Franciscan basilica, a place of spirituality and art, a temple dedicated to those who made Italy great.
In addition to the visits, there will also be some activities dedicated to families and children such as the Treasure Hunt, Draw your name - which starts from the coats of arms of the great families -, and Invent a monument, which recalls the memorials dedicated to the great characters of Santa Croce.
How to join in
Every visit will be a unique experience, an opportunity to visit Santa Croce for the first time or to return. The visits are free and open to all, requiring a mandatory online booking from the Santa Croce website; an entrance ticket to the monumental complex must be purchased, which is free for residents in the Municipality of Florence. The visits will all take place at 3pm with the exception of the visit at dawn, for which the exact time is defined depending on the date. The visits last about one hour and all take place in Italian.
