La croce che fiorisce e le stimmate di Francesco
The exhibition La croce che fiorisce e le stimmate di Francesco. Un percorso fra testi e immagini a Santa Croce, curated by Sonia Chiodo, Giovanni Gura, Anna Pegoretti, Federico Rossi, opens on 3 December 2024 in the Winter Refectory of Santa Croce.
Dedicated to the depiction of the miracle of the Stigmata between the mid-13th century and the first half of the 14th century, the exhibition offers a selection of paintings and manuscripts linked to the Franciscan basilica. It develops a narrative that ideally continues in the church and convent of Santa Croce, recounting the evolution of the iconography of the Stigmata with particular attention to the figure of the 14th-century painter Taddeo Gaddi, in light of his contribution to the visualization of themes dear to Franciscan spirituality.
The project is developed as a part of the collaboration activated by the Opera di Santa Croce with the Departments of History, Archaeology, Geography, Art and Entertainment (Sagas) and Architecture (Dida) of the University of Florence, and of Ancient and Modern Civilizations of the University of Messina, and of Humanistic Studies of Roma Tre University.
The inauguration is on Tuesday 3 December at 6.30 pm in the Refectory of Santa Croce; the exhibition will remain open to visitors until March 30, 2025.
