New permanent guided tour service
Opera has now set up a new facility offering guided tours of the monumental complex on set days and at set times. The tours are designed to introduce visitors to Santa Croce’s most important masterpieces while also exploring its less well-known nooks and crannies and learning its hidden secrets.
From Dante and the Middle Ages to the present day: experience the thrill of meeting the great men and women of the past while admiring the art treasures housed in Santa Croce. The tour focuses in particular on the history of Santa Croce from its foundation to the present day, touching on the most important masterpieces in the basilica ranging from the monumental tombs of such leading historical figures as Galileo and Michelangelo to the art of Giotto, Cimabue, Taddeo and Agnolo Gaddi and Bronzino, before moving into the ancient cloisters where you can marvel at the perfection of Filippo Brunelleschi’s Pazzi Chapel.
The tours, which last 70 minutes and are conducted in Italian and English. They can be purchased when buying your ticket to the complex either at the ticket office or on line. Please note: Residents of the city of Florence are entitled to free admission to Santa Croce.
